It’s All About Books at Booktalk with the Daughters of St. Paul

There’s nothing quite like reading a terrific book, a book that makes you think, a book that opens up new ways of living a Catholic life, of relating to others, of praying and meditating. Seriously: is there? And what’s even better than finding such a book is being able to get deeper into it, to chat about it, to hear how other people reacted to it.

Wouldn’t that be a great idea? A Catholic book club that introduces you to new books, that revisits old favorites, that brings you books that inspire and deepen your faith?

That’s exactly what Booktalk with the Daughters of St. Paul does! At Pauline Books and Media, as you might expect, we have frequent conversations about amazing books, and there came a time when we wished we could share those conversations with everyone. How better than through a book club?

Every month we choose a book to discuss. It might be something brand-new, or it might be a book that we think of as an overlooked classic. Sometimes we chat with the book’s author; sometimes we bring in experts in the subject matter; all of the time we open up the endless spiritual possibilities offered through the book’s pages. We do this via videos that we post on a weekly basis–usually one or two, sometimes followed up by a non-recorded video session to which participants are invited. While no one has to have read the book in advance, we think it enhances enjoyment of the video discussions if you have.

And it’s easy to participate: just sign up for notifications. When you receive them, there will be a link you can click for that particular Booktalk. And past Booktalks are always available!

Here’s what we have finished–and planned–so far:

  • June, 2018: Midwife for Souls: Spiritual Care of the Dying (Kathy Kalina): the spiritual care of the dying. See the video conversation here.
  • July, 2018: Way of Wonder: Wisdom from G. K. Chesterton (Dale Ahlquist): the wit and wisdom of G.K. Chesterton. See the video conversation here.
  • August, 2018: Mary, Mother of Apostles (Giuseppe Forlai): a Marian tradition renewed and re-imagined. See the video conversation here.
  • September, 2018: Reclaim Regret (Kathryn Hermes, FSP): healing life’s disappointments.

So consider joining us for any of all of our editions of Booktalk with the Daughters of St. Paul as we explore the many facets of what it means to be a Catholic in today’s world.
