New Coloring Books Are Aids to Prayer and Meditation

Pauline Books & Media introduces opportunities to “color in” stained glass windows from Chartres and Marian images in a new line of adult Catholic coloring books

BOSTON, MA, August 15, 2016: Two new licensed projects by Pauline Books & Media will be published September 1st: Our Lady’s Garden by Brazilian illustrator Veruschka Guerra, and a book of stained glass from Chartres entitled Windows into Christ, the publishing house announced today.

Our Lady’s Garden: A Coloring Book for Prayer and Meditation complements Guerra’s inspired drawings with prayers, hymns, and words from approved Marian apparitions. One of the first explicitly Catholic adult coloring books on the market, it gently draws users into mindfulness, meditation, and prayer, including spaces where readers may write their own thoughts and reactions or draw additional pictures.

Chartres Cathedral has been a holy pilgrimage destination for centuries, and now colorists of all ages can become pilgrims as well in a creative and contemplative way through Windows into Christ: A Coloring Book for Prayer and Meditation, featuring 50 of the cathedral’s 176 renowned stained-glass windows along with corresponding readings from the New Testament.

Both books are optionally available paired with music CDs from the Daughters of St. Paul, carefully selected to complement the particular book.

“We’re very pleased to offer this opportunity for people to pray and reflect though our coloring books,” says Sr. Mary Mark Wickenhiser, publisher. “People have already shared with us their experience of quiet peace and reflection as they color and listen to the gentle sounds of our choir’s angel-like voices.”

Throughout August the publishing house is running contests on Pinterest for each book at https://www.pinterest.com/paulinecenters/our-ladys-garden-a-peaceful-space-for-coloring-and/ and https://www.pinterest.com/paulinecenters/windows-into-christ-a-coloring-book-for-prayer-and/. The former allows for the download of one image from Our Lady’s Garden that users can color and send in to be eligible for the weekly drawing; the second encourages them to share photographs of stained glass windows from their own parishes.

Both boards encourage leaving prayer intentions as well as praying for those of others, what the publisher hopes will be an ongoing experience via the books. “For me, it is an invitation for peace in our day-to-day lives,” says Our Lady’s Garden illustrator Guerra.
